Many cultures have turned to acupuncture as a method to combat cigarette cravings. Small needles are placed in the upper back and ear area. Various studies have indicated this to be a very good method in warding off the daily use of cigarettes.
For those looking for something a bit more conventional, prescription medicine may be your choice. Chantix (varenicline) is the No. 1 prescribed quit-smoking aid. Chantix in particular offers three plans: Fixed quit approach, flexible quit approach, gradual quit approach. Each is tailored to help the consumer based upon their desire to quit smoking. Additionally, over-the-counter nicotine gum can be purchased. This is a gradual process geared towards weaning someone off of nicotine.
There are those who swear by using hypnotherapy. One session is (in theory) supposed to rid the individual of the cigarette cravings. However, one must do their due diligence in finding a legitimate person to carry about the hypnotherapy. There are many ‘quacks’ out there without real experience or know how. The prudent course of action would include lengthy research online. This will then allow the prospective customer to hire an experienced person in the field.
Lastly, there’s the act of going cold turkey. Possessing the will power to suddenly stop smoking is quite difficult. This is made exponentially more arduous if the person in question is a heavy smoker. In this instance, it’s key to initially extract one’s self from situations in which smoking may arise. This could include nights out with friends, or activities which could elicit stress. When feeling anxious or stressed out, one could turn to exercise rather than a cigarette.
